My Story
Our Favorite Things is a little shop tucked inside a courtyard on Girard Avenue in La Jolla, CA. Here I sell my creations, handcrafted with the help of my grandmother, mom, and sister. We have unique scarves, headbands, hair accessories, pet clothes, and jewelry. Alongside my products, I also support local artisans in appreciation of their talent. You can find different items from vintage clothing to handmade journals to custom jewelry from different local vendors!
Another important aspect of the shop is that I work with non-profit organizations and charities. I carry products from these organizations, or donate a portion of my sales to various places, depending on the product. My pet accessories help The Humane Society, an animal protection organization. Handmade products imported from Vietnam including keychains and electronics cases and purses help fund One Body Village, which works to stop child sex trafficking in Cambodia and Vietnam. Bracelets provided by N’SESA International fund a child’s education in Tanzania.
As the business moves forward, I hope to work with more non-profits and charities and am open to different causes. I’m thankful for the opportunities I have been given, and am grateful that I can pursue and achieve my passions. So with the chance to open a small shop of my own, I feel that I should provide the help I can to others in this area, as well as the world, who can’t help themselves. Even if it’s a little help, such as donating a certain amount of money or raising awareness about an unjust situation, I am glad to be doing something.
I will be heading into my senior of high school this fall at The Bishop’s School. My family has been supportive and has encouraged me with my work. My age shouldn’t restrict my goal of impacting the community. And so I have made sure that it does not limit me. So, my enthusiasm for entrepreneurship combined with love of arts and crafts have brought me here, to Our Favorite Things.
